End of the Year

Finally made it to the end. We are currently in finals and closing out the year. To end the year with my students I had students complete a lab about Oil Spills. The students really enjoyed it. The lab was taken from “Life on an Ocean Planet” Laboratory Manual. I changed some of the lab to fit our curriculum. I’ve attached a picture of the lab setup. The learning outcomes were to predict the effects of oil spills and evaluate the efficiency and cost of oil spill cleanup methods. Students were shocked over the amount of money cleanup would cost. After completeing the lab students began to take interest in the Oil Spill in the Gulf. Students also began discussing the policy of Offshore drilling in North Carolina. Overall this was perfect timing for this lab and it was great for everyone since we were all overwhelmed with work.
