Recently I participated in a workshop for STEP by NC State. Two of my colleagues submitted an application to NC State to become involved with the Sustainable Transportation Education Program (STEP). We were accepted as a school and went to the workshop to get the information needed for the competition. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to get involved in a program that promotes STEM education. You can read about the STEP program at In short it is a competition in which schools modify a RC car for a speed and endurance races. The car is powered by rechargeable batteries. A recharge station with a solar panel is used to recharge the car.  We have a long road ahead of us, but we are excited to take part in this event. It’s going to be a great learning experience.

On another note there are amazing resources on NASA NES (NASA explorer school) website. I had the opportunity to take part in one of the Web seminars and found there is a great deal of resources that are available for teachers. I have joined NES and hope to implement some of their lessons.
