STEP Update

We are heading into the final stretch for the STEP competition. This event is hosted by NC State University and the Navy for the high school level.  As students reviewed the materials provided by NCSU, they implemented changes to their RC car. The guidelines are pretty clear and the students have found them descriptive. Information on the program has been posted on NC State University Website.

This week we continue our work on the solar panel charging station. Students finally agreed to the structure and actually began building the Solar Panel Station last week. The solar panel is provided by NC State. Our structure has changed many times, so we finalized the structure and began building. The students have been very diligent in doing the experiments and tests required. Hopefully we will begin testing the charging station with batteries this week. Final testing on the car and solar station will be this week.

The students are gaining experience in STEM education and facing real life problems as they get ready for competition. Most of the background information given for the project correlates with Physics, Earth Science and Math curriculum.
