Senate Resolution Highlights Earth Science Week

This is great. We are doing some of the activities this week in class. Will post about how they went later.

One of the many celebrations and recognitions of Earth Science Week 2016 is a Senate Resolution, S.Res.562, “expressing support for designation of the week of October 9, 2016, through October 15, 2016, as ‘Earth Science Week.’” Led by Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chair Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), the resolution passed by unanimous consent on September 28 and had ten bipartisan original cosponsors: Sen. Lamar Alexander [R-TN], Sen. Maria Cantwell [D-WA],  Sen. Shelley Moore Capito [R-WV], Sen. Bill Cassidy  [R-LA], Sen. Mazie Hirono [D-HI],  Sen. Bill Nelson, [D-FL], Sen. Gary Peters, [D-MI], Sen. Angus King, Jr. [I-ME], Sen. Edward J. Markey, [D-MA] and Sen. Martin Heinrich [D-NM].  Scientists who participated in Geosciences Congressional Visits Day had asked Senators to consider supporting the resolution.

The resolution highlights Earth Science contributions to society.  It notes:
